Be Prepared

It’s a good motto.

Photobucket

It’s certainly worked for the Scouts. Since 1907, as a matter of fact.

I wore heels to work today. I wear heals most days. It’s a height thing (or lackthereof). And it’s not usually a problem given my parking spot is approximately two yards from the front door.

But it’s been a crazy week here in SoCal. Perhaps you heard about the temblor we had yesterday at approximately 11:42am!

[I was at the cemetery which would have made me first in line if that darn wall crypt had fallen over. I was “visiting” my grandparents, great-grandparents, and aunt and uncle before a funeral. S-C-A-R-Y! Things were rattling around…and it was fairly disconcerting.]

Anyway, there was a break in the main gas line outside the shul today. Not a big deal…except that there was not car access to the parking lot. Also not a big deal…except that I had to park miles and miles and miles away. OK, not really. But in heels… It was a LONG block.

What was most amazing is how quickly the city tore up the street, fixed the problem, and had that hot tar flowing.

Amazing how motivating a little gas can be.

So first of all, a sturdy pair of shoes should be in the trunk of any car for just such an emergency. And next, I think that it is time to review our disaster plan.

it sure does make you think. actually, now that i’m thinking about it all, this is definitely a whole post for me…making a note right now.

i’m just glad it was all okay. i ❤ twitter cuz i actually knew you were at the cemetery…and then i knew you were okay!

    craziness.

This IS important. I’m in Northern California, so the awareness is high over here as well.

High heels are torture. I avoid them as much as I can. 🙂

No high heels for me, at least not unless I am forced to appear in the Rocky Horror Picture Show again.

Been meaning to ask, how’d you come up with the names for your “cast of characters?”

Josh — thanks for stopping by!!

Phyl and Vered — I LOVE heels. I know…weird! I mean, they aren’t exactly comfortable but they look SO great. Plus, it’s sometimes the only way I don’t get mistaken for one of the Bat Mitzvah kids.

Jack — I don’t even want to imagine that!
As for the names, the three kid names were the nicknames we used when I was pregnant. The Giraffes stem from DadGiraffe’s LOVE of giraffes! And to be honest, PepGiraffe (who was the first of the 4 giraffe kids to start blogging) selected quite a few of these monikers. I use them to keep things straight for those who read all our blogs (although Jock and Ace haven’t blogged for over a year so they don’t count as bloggers anymore!!)

Re: heels, have you tried beautifeel? aesthetic, comfortable, and israeli-made — all good things. pretty reasonably priced, often on end-of-season sales.

Felt the earthquake too — what a rumble! Growing up in Calif., I can’t remember feeling one that gave such a jolt.

Keep the balance (whole new meaning here),

FS, I’m surprised at you. When we had the Mustang, we had a box in back with used sneakers, a sweater, a blanket and some water and maybe some other stuff. I know because I put it there. In fact, that was one of the reasons I didn’t mind so much that the car was so messy. You never knew when you were going to need something that someone just left in there. Though the probability of needing old homework assignments was very, very low.
