Mother and Son Playing

There are no guarantees. We can eat all the right foods. Exercise moderately (with the doctor’s OK). Stay away from toxins. Drink water. Get sleep.

And still things can go horribly wrong. Miscarriage. Fetal demise. Post-partum complications. And so many other variables.

God-forbid.

While there are so many things that we cannot prevent, there is valuable information that every Jew of child-bearing age MUST have. You must know your genes.

A must-read post on Jewish Genetic Testing can be found over at the Jewish Wedding Network.

To Life!

If this is the link I think it is (cant get it to work) I asked my doctor for the test and he declined, saying we can check after cancer shows up.

Nope. Has nothing to do with cancer. This focuses on Jewish Genetic diseases including, but not sadly not limited to, Tay-Sachs, Gaucher, and Familial Dysautonomia.

ALL Jews of child-bearing age ought to get tested!

My husband an I got tested years ago, in Israel. It was worth the peace of mind.

It is unfortunate that many insurance companies won’t cover the cost of testing, which can be upwards of $2,000 per person. The Chicago Center for Jewish Genetic Disorders offers low-cost testing for young Jewish adults (http://www.jewishgenetics.org/).

Don’t understand why one would need to get tested just because one is of child-bearing *age*. This really only affects you if you plan on having children.
