A Logical Conclusion

Thank God for Facebook.
No, I really mean it. Thank God for Facebook. It has replaced the grapevine. As in “I Heard It Through the.”
Thanks to Facebook, our synagogue has learned of births, engagements, pregnancies, deaths, and illnesses. Once-upon-a-time, folks called the temple office in order to inform the rabbis of their particular situations. Now? They update their statuses.
Which explains how I came to spend the evening with a family whose eleven year old son was being prepped for an appendectomy.
Nurse: And you are???
FrumeSarah: The Rabbi.
Which is why we were a taken aback when the nurse, during the pre-op questionnaire, asked the family:
And what is your religious affiliation?

This goes right along with the whole Easter bunny thing. I always figured, “Hey… religion is a required course for everyone that attends college. At one point or another, one MUST take a basic religion course to graduate.” That being said, I would EXPECT a RN to know that, in this context, the family was Jewish. What more of a clue does one need? In my opinion (which is probably worth two cents as the saying goes)if individuals took the time to education themselves about other religious traditions this kind of thing would happen less and less. Read a book, take a class, look something up on Wikiapedia (as much as I HATE Wikiapedia it at least offers SOME kind of knowledge about various faith traditions)! The bottom line? A)Jews DO NOT celebrate Easter in any context or in any way B)If a Rabbi comes to the hospital and introduces him/herself as “the Rabbi,” then the family is Jewish! Education, education, education!!!
I don’t know why I still get surprised by this kind of thing. Just incredible.
oh. my. @God_of_Israel.
🙂
I know. I KNOW.
That nurse should’ve taken Religion 101 in college. Crazy clueless!!
