Items from the Fall Fundraiser were delivered today.
Beernut: Mom, all the other kids got their items except for me.
FrumeSarah: That’s because we didn’t order that drek any this year.
Beernut: Why not?
FrumeSarah: You decided not to go to Outdoor Science Camp this year and that is where the proceeds go.
Beernut: But MO-om, we could have donated the money to a family who can’t afford it.
And that is what makes Asperger’s so darn perplexing. This is the very same kid who cannot understand why every meal we eat isn’t selected from one of his very narrow food choices. Yet he is able to see that there are other kids who might not be able to afford Science Camp.

That is awesome. Did you suggest that you could donate straight to the camp instead? Or is that not allowed?
I donated the equivalent worth of 3 calendars for a friends child’s school fundraiser. They were Christian Biblical quote calendars and I didn’t think it necessary, so I just gave them a check for chai and wished them luck.
Beernut is such a nice kid! Often a school’s PTA provides camperships to kids who need some help. A donation to it would go 100% to someone who needs it instead of 50% to the manufacturer of the product. Sounds like a win-win.
Well-done Beernut’s parents!
You might be pleased to know that some of the gifts in the package you received yesterday is wrapped in some paper I bought from Beernut about four years ago. (Hurrah for finding things! Hurrah for flat wrapping paper you can travel with! Hurrah for USPS!)
