The Red Dress Club: Playlist

The first time is an occurrence.
The second time is a coincidence.
The third time is a habit. And a superstitious one at that.

Caroline’s Kick-A$$ Playlist.

That’s how it was titled on her iTouch. Caroline’s Kick-A$$ Playlist. A collection of songs meant to get her adrenaline flowing and to put her in the mindset of a warrior. Plus a few songs she just really, really liked.

The titles had been added to over time. A few had been removed. Especially if they were associated with a particularly negative surgical outcome…

She hit “play” as she backed her car out of the garage.

  1. It’s a Good Day
  2. I Know This Town
  3. Perfect Way
  4. Easing her car into the parking garage, Gus tips his imaginary hat as Caroline heads down to the lower level.
  5. Can’t Fight the Moonlight
  6. Live it Up
  7. 05R 23L 47R
  8. Dynamite
  9. Wavin’ Flag
  10. Her locker door slammed shut.
  11. Get Your Shine On
  12. Get Up
  13. Three minute scrub. And again.
  14. Go the Distance

“Hi, Jenna. Do you remember me? I’m Dr. Greenwood.”

Red Writing Hood is a writing meme. This week’s prompt was to take a look at the playlist of one of our fictional characters. (There was a nonfiction option this week, but I was curious to find out what was on Caroline’s iTouch.) As always, constructive criticism is especially welcomed.

Love it lady! A whole new side of your writing! I ADORED the beginning- it really drew me in and the words/ explanations were perfectly woven and definitely served their purpose: I want to know more about Caroline!

Thanks, G. I had no idea Caroline was lurking inside my keppie. But now, it seems, I can’t get her back inside. She has a story to tell.

(Can’t wait to discover what that is!!)

WOW. That was perky. And yet intriguing. I mean I want to know more and more…

As did I. This was such a great prompt because it really forced me to start delving deeper into Caroline and figure her out a bit more.

I am thinking that this might be a good exercise for all characters…

I really liked this, Sarah! Except I don’t think I know any of these songs! I am so not cool.

First of all, neither am I. This is Caroline’s playlist; not mine.

Seriously, the last song is from a Disney’s Hercules. Not so cool. The first song is an old Peggy Lee song and the second song was made known by Bette Midler.

      See? Not so cool. 🙂

I like this. Need more of the story.

I’m also out of the loop on the music. I must be old.

You’d have to be really old, then, because one of these songs was composed in 1948 by the incomparable Peggy Lee.

You’ve phrased it wrong. Not just “the” loop. That is the “what’s hot now” loop. There are many loops. I’m sure that there is a music loop that strikes your fancy.

    Good Shabbos!
    😉

I’m with Cheryl. I’m totally not hip when it comes to music. Totally a sign that my kids control what we listen to. But my husband would probably know all of them!

    Hag Sameach!

      Shavua tov!!!!!

I let my kids share some of their pieces with me, but we continue to have a HUGE influence on what they enjoy because we want them to have a broad understanding of the many genres. PC typically covers rock and contemporary while I handle classical, Jewish, and show tunes.

Enjoy the end of the Chag!
