Common Language
A group of of us were scheduled to get together for lunch today. For most of us, it was to have been our first IRL experience. We know each other, though, through our ongoing conversations on Facebook, Twitter, reading one another’s blogs, etc.
After careful consideration of time-schedules, dietary restrictions, and other logistics, we settled on what looked to be a delicious choice.
Or so I imagine.
Because life got in the way. One of us was unable to procure child care. Another one of us had to stay longer at work. I ended up caring for Poppyseed, who was diagnosed with influenza this morning.
And so, apologies and rain checks were exchanged.
Im tirtzu ain zo agada , said one.
Parapharsing Theodor Herzl, if we will it, it is no dream.
I love sharing a common language.
All I know is that I sat there all by myself for hours….
That is not true.
But Shawn Landres from Jumpstart did go – oops!
Oh dear… We owe him a drink next time.
I didn’t see you there- so how would you know?
Because Shawn would have mentioned it.
I’m tirtzu is a better way to look at it than Man tracht, Gott lacht…. 🙂
Agreed.
When you reschedule, I’ll Skpe in! 😉
Seriously though face-to-face meetings are great! I met with two friends tonight who started out as Twitter friends. They know me in an entirely different way than my non-Twitter IRL friends!
So true.
That would be fun to Skype you in…
Really, I was the Jewish looking guy at the table. You know the one with the dark hair…
Duh. This isn’t NYC. A guy with dark hair would definitely stand out here…
I am the older brother to many younger sisters. Back in the day I was trained in the arts of war and protection so that I might be able to protect them.
It is second nature to me now, so it is possible that I blended in far too effectively to be noticed.
