You’ve just been ousted as the mayor of Congregation Fill-in-the-Blank!
That was the subject heading of an email that I received on Saturday night.
Sorry for the bad news, but Plonit-bat-Plonit has just ousted you as mayor of Congregation Fill-in-the-Blank!
Don’t take it too hard – a few more check-ins and you could be back on top…Good Luck!
– Your friends @ foursquare
But it’s not really bad news, foursquare friends. And I won’t be “back on top.” It is bittersweet, to be sure. But I am not meant to be the mayor any longer. Time for others to step into the roles that I once filled.

So who’s the new mayor?
One of the moms of the TGIS set 😉
If the e-mail you received was serious, I wish I knew who sent it. If it’s supposed to be funny, it isn’t. And if one has something to say, sending an anonymous e-mail is both childish and cowardly.

The person (or persons) who sent you this obnoxious email is mean spirited even if it was meant to be a joke. All of us need to just pause before we let our Yetzer Hara get the best of us. I am genuinely sad that this happened no matter what the intention.
I and many others love you and miss you lots,
@Sara and @Seporah1234 —
This was not an obnoxious email. It was from FourSquare, which is a location-based social networking website. As I am no longer able to “check-in” to Cong. Fill-in-the-Blank, I was bound to be displaced as the “mayor” sooner or later.
I miss you both and hope to see you when I am back on the bimah for “got Shabbat?” in February.
Oops! The thought occurred to me that perhaps there was more to the e-mail than what I was reading but I let my anger get the best of me and fired off my response before I thought it all the way through.
I’m fiercely protective of my friends and tend to get extremely defensive if I believe they’ve been “attacked.” I’m not sure if that’s a good thing or a bad thing… 🙂
Looking forward to seeing you in February!
I’m so sorry I didn’t check my facts before posting my original comment. I didn’t pause, just as I accused someone else. I ask for your forgiveness and from the author of the original email.
That’s just because you’re not here to check in daily, right? It’s certainly not because you’ve been forgotten.
Exactly. Although with the inauguration of the new shul website, it is as if I never existed. But that is all part of The Plan.
